The publisher has bought a portfolio of industrial, technical and security titles, with two Elsevier editorial staff transferring as it expands its MA Business division.

Mark Allen Group has expanded its specialist publishing arm with the purchase of 13 titles from Elsevier Limited, bringing a mix of magazines and newsletters into its MA Business division. The portfolio spans industrial, technical and security-focused publications, including Metal Powder Report, Reinforced Plastics, World Pumps and Filtration & Separation, alongside newsletters covering areas from fuel cells and membranes to cyber security and biometrics.

The company said the titles will be overseen by Jon Benson, its chief operating officer and managing director, with support from Graham Johnson, group content director. Two editorial employees are moving across from Elsevier as part of the transaction, which suggests Mark Allen is seeking continuity as well as growth while integrating the brands into its existing business-to-business operation.

According to the information released about the deal, the purchase price has not been disclosed. Mark Allen described the portfolio as one that combines institutional and corporate subscriptions with advertising, and said it would benefit from the additional editorial attention his group can provide. Ben Allen, the company’s chief executive, said the new titles offered encouraging prospects for the teams involved and pointed to the group’s confidence in developing the brands further.

The acquisition fits with Mark Allen Group’s broader strategy of building out a large stable of specialist media properties. The family-owned company, founded in 1985, says it now operates more than 100 magazines and has more than 140 brands across print, digital and events. Its portfolio already includes titles such as Farmers Weekly, acquired in 2020, and a range of other established trade and consumer publications.
