The partnership will help Collective Newsroom adapt existing BBC News material into short-form and vertical video, with the companies stressing editorial oversight and human judgement.

Frammer AI has entered a partnership with Collective Newsroom to support video production for BBC News in India, including adapting existing material for digital distribution. The announcement says Collective Newsroom produces content in nine languages; its official profile describes output in English and six Indian languages, including services for BBC News Gujarati, Hindi, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil and Telugu.

Frammer’s platform is designed to turn live broadcasts and longer videos into shorter clips, reframe horizontal footage for vertical viewing, and add metadata and branding. Its website also describes multilingual tools, including automatic dubbing, alongside an editing suite intended to leave newsroom teams in control. Frammer says the partnership will help public-service journalism reach audiences through digital formats; that is the company’s stated aim, not an independently measured outcome.

Collective Newsroom was launched in April 2024 by four former senior BBC employees in India. The organisation says it has more than 250 journalists and is the BBC’s sole content provider for its six Indian-language websites, social media platforms and BBC News India YouTube channel. Its newsroom also produces television programmes in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, according to its profile.

For Collective Newsroom’s chief operating officer, Sara Hassan, the stated priority is to use AI without weakening editorial safeguards. “With Frammer and the ethical use of AI, Collective Newsroom aims to strengthen its ability to deliver creative, credible, and courageous journalism efficiently, without compromising on human judgment, editorial integrity, or public trust,” she said. Frammer chief executive Suparna Singh said the newsroom was adopting the technology with editorial scrutiny and brand-safety checks.

Frammer was founded in 2023 by media executives, including three co-founders who were part of NDTV’s management team, according to the company. Its website lists international media organisations ABS-CBN, Media Prima and Medialivre among its partners, alongside Indian publishers including India Today Group and Network18. The partnership adds Collective Newsroom to a network spanning news and other video formats.
