While still a small players, RedNote’s rise suggests that users do not share the ideological concerns of the US government about Chinese apps and are happy to chase the best functionality.
With the TikTok landscape in flux, a number of creators formerly on TikTok have already begun to migrate their content to RedNote, while existing users on the platform are enthusiastically welcoming these new participants. In addition to RedNote, another Chinese application, Lemon8, also owned by TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, is witnessing increased user engagement as it attempts to capture the audience migrating from TikTok. However, much like TikTok, Lemon8 may also face scrutiny and potential actions mandating its removal from US app stores.
