The publisher has relaunched its website and app with a comprehensive redesign focused on transparency, unbiased reporting and user engagement.

A lack of trust in the news media is a problem that afflicts almost every market in the world. And steadily the number of organisations addressing it head on are increasing.

Straight Arrow News, a relatively new entrant to the US media landscape, has announced a relaunch of its website and app with a major redesign focused on restoring public trust through clarity, balance and transparency. Founded in 2021, SAN positions itself as a counterweight to the perceived bias in mainstream American news outlets, promising fact-based journalism free from partisan framing.

The revamped platform includes several new features aimed at improving user experience and reinforcing SAN’s editorial approach. A redesigned “Today Page” delivers real-time updates alongside deeper context, while multimedia Story Pages now include summary bullets and a range of formats to accommodate different levels of reader engagement.

One of the most distinctive additions is “Media Miss”, a section that flags stories underreported by other major outlets on the right and the left. Recent examples include a federal finding that a Texas hospital violated the law when it sent a woman home with a nonviable pregnancy – which had gone unreported by right-leaning outlets; and the sharp drop in ratings for MSNBC’s Jen Psaki, which had received limited coverage from left-oriented publications. These stories are presented with links to primary sources, encouraging users to explore the facts for themselves.

Chief revenue officer Ken Shapiro said the redesign reflected a new way of thinking about how complex stories should be presented. The platform also now includes “fact cards,” a customisable media player and a feature allowing users to view how coverage differs across the political spectrum.

The overhaul comes at a time of deep scepticism about the media. A recent survey found that 36% of Americans say they have no trust in the press, compared with just 31% who say they do. SAN’s bet is that greater transparency and a more user-friendly design can help reverse that trend.

The platform has already earned a perfect score from NewsGuard, the information reliability website, and a “Certified Balanced” rating from AllSides, endorsements that SAN hopes will boost its credibility among sceptical audiences.
