The publisher aims to enhance cooking experiences for home chefs through personalised recipe suggestions.

News Corp Australia has unveiled the introduction of an AI-powered virtual recipe assistant, dubbed “TasteBud”, within the popular Taste app. The new feature aims to assist Australian cooking enthusiasts in streamlining their culinary quests by offering tailored recipe suggestions based on the ingredients they have on hand and their specific dietary preferences.

TasteBud is embedded in the Taste app, leveraging the well-established culinary resources of the brand, which boasts 50,000 tested recipes. This new feature is designed to interact with users in a conversational manner, allowing for dynamic follow-up inquiries that help refine search outcomes for a more bespoke cooking experience.

Pippa Leary, Managing Director and Publisher of Free News and Lifestyle at News Corp Australia, highlighted how this launch exemplifies the company’s dedication to providing users with practical solutions that enhance their digital experience. She said: “Our digital food products are centred on improving the user experience. TasteBud is a prime example of our efforts to optimise content, addressing consumer demands for efficiency and delivering greater value.”

According to Leary, TasteBud is a forerunner for upcoming AI-driven projects that will bolster the company’s growth and strengthen its market offerings for both consumers and clients.

Kerrie McCallum, the Head of Food, Travel and Health, emphasised the personalised and simplified approach TasteBud brings to the recipe discovery process. She explained that the AI tool not only matches users’ culinary ideas and ingredients with the comprehensive recipe database but also offers precise suggestions, particularly when specific context, such as time constraints, is provided. McCallum said: “We are in the early phases of this exciting journey, and TasteBud already boasts an impressive accuracy rate of 99 per cent, with ‘chicken’ as the most frequently searched term.”

With the deployment of TasteBud, Australian home cooks have a powerful new resource to elevate their kitchen creativity, making meal preparation more efficient and personalised. This innovative tool stands as a testament to News Corp Australia’s ongoing commitment to integrating cutting-edge technology into its consumer offerings.
