The Chinese giant has launched Xiaodu AI Glasses, featuring an integrated AI assistant

Chinese tech titan Baidu has introduced a new pair of smart glasses featuring a built-in AI assistant, marking its entry into the growing market of AI-powered wearable technology. This launch comes as Baidu also reported a slight decline in third-quarter revenue, although it exceeded market expectations.

Earlier this month, Baidu unveiled its Xiaodu AI Glasses, designed to compete with Meta’s popular Ray-Ban smart glasses. With functionalities that incorporate Baidu’s Ernie AI and access to its extensive maps and search features, the glasses are equipped with at least one camera.

While exact pricing details have yet to be disclosed, expectations suggest they will serve as a local alternative to products unavailable in China, like those from OpenAI.

Baidu’s financial performance for the third quarter ending September 30 revealed annual revenue of $4.78 billion, representing a 3% decrease compared to the previous year. Despite the revenue drop, this figure surpassed analysts’ projections of $4.63 billion. The company’s net income for the period reached $1.09 billion, a 14% increase.

In addition to the introduction of its AI glasses, Baidu has reinforced its commitment to an AI-centric business strategy, as Robin Li, its CEO, expressed confidence in both the short-term and long-term trajectory of the company. He said, “Despite the near-term pressures, we remain steadfast in our AI-focused strategy and are confident in our long-term trajectory.”
