The partnership is aimed at enhancing the resilience of publishers in the evolving global media landscape.

WAN-IFRA and FIPP, two of the most influential global media networks, have announced a new partnership to support publishers facing the pressures of digital transformation and shifting market conditions.

The collaboration, unveiled last week, brings together more than 20,000 media brands and technology firms across 80 countries. It aims to offer a shared platform for knowledge exchange and best practice, with a focus on helping publishers improve commercial performance, editorial workflows and digital subscription strategies.

Magazine and newspaper publishers – represented respectively by FIPP and WAN-IFRA – are grappling with rapid technological change, audience fragmentation and growing pressure to monetise content more effectively. By pooling resources and networks, FIPP and WAN-IFRA hope to offer stronger support to their members.

Yulia Boyle, FIPP chair, said the partnership acknowledged the “complementary nature and specific features of the news and magazine publishing professions” and would encourage dialogue between the two sectors.

As part of the agreement, FIPP members will be able to attend WAN-IFRA’s World News Media Congress in Kraków from 4–6 May at member rates. WAN-IFRA members will receive reciprocal access to FIPP’s World Media Congress in Madrid this October. The two organisations also plan to co-publish special reports and white papers throughout the year.

The partnership will be discussed in more detail by Boyle and WAN-IFRA CEO Vincent Peyrègne at the Kraków event.

WAN-IFRA represents around 3,000 news publishers and tech companies, with a mission to protect media freedom and support independent journalism. FIPP, founded in 1925, began as a magazine publishing forum and now includes a wider group of media owners and content creators.

As publishers navigate a fast-changing landscape, this partnership could provide a model for greater collaboration across the global media industry.
