The London tabloid celebrates a significant milestone in its digital evolution as it appoints a global women’s editor.

The Daily Mail has crossed the milestone of a quarter of a million subscribers within 15 months of the launch of its new digital service, Mail+.

As of now, the Daily Mail boasts over 163,000 subscribers to its Mail+ service, which offers access to exclusive articles on its online platform, MailOnline. Additionally, more than 92,000 readers enjoy the Mail+ Editions, a digital replica of the print newspaper designed for mobile devices.

These figures indicate that the Daily Mail has rapidly established itself as one of the fastest-growing newspaper subscription services globally, just over a year after Mail+ was introduced.

The publication’s digital reach is not limited to the UK; it has attracted international readership as well. Notably, 21,000 subscribers are based in the United States, where Mail+ just over a month ago. There are also about 11,000 subscribers in Australia.

In addition to its digital growth, the Daily Mail remains dominant in the print newspaper sector. It reportedly sells 1.1 million more copies per week than its nearest rival, The Sun, and sells one in every three national newspapers in the UK. On particularly robust days, such as Saturday, the paper celebrates selling over one million copies, averaging 13 newspapers sold each second.

Ted Verity, Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Mail, said: “I don’t think there’s ever been a more exciting time to be a Mail journalist… The rapid success of our subscription services is a fantastic tribute to the talent and hard work of our unrivalled team of reporters, writers, photographers, videographers and editors.”

Furthermore, the Daily Mail has taken a progressive step in women’s journalism by appointing Celia Duncan as the world’s first Global Women’s Editor. Initially joining the paper in 2015 from The Times, Duncan’s work includes the launch of Mail+ in international markets. She said: “I am absolutely delighted to become the Mail’s first Global Women’s Editor. It’s a huge honour… Together with some of the most talented writers and editors in Britain, we’ve expanded our women’s content considerably over the past few years.”
