  • Axios to launch a five-episode series The Axios Show this month
  • The series marks Axios’s return to video after its Emmy-winning HBO collaboration ended in 2021
  • Focuses on concise, on-demand conversations across politics, business, and culture

Axios will relaunch its video ambitions in September with The Axios Show, a five-episode interview series distributed across its website, YouTube and X.

The move marks the outlet’s return to video four years after the end of Axios on HBO, the Emmy-winning program that ran for 57 episodes.

The original HBO collaboration helped put Axios on the map, with half-hour documentaries and insider interviews that included Jonathan Swan’s widely shared exchange with Donald Trump during the pandemic.

This new series reflects how viewing habits have shifted. Episodes will run for 20–30 minutes, fitting Axios’s “smart brevity” style, and will focus on politics, business, technology, media and culture. Founders Mike Allen and Jim VandeHei will feature alongside other Axios journalists.

Uber has signed on as presenting sponsor. Editor-in-chief Aja Whitaker-Moore said the aim is to bring Axios journalism to new audiences in the formats people use most, while complementing its newsletters and live events.

Industry analysts note the pivot from HBO to digital-first video mirrors a wider trend of news brands moving away from legacy partnerships to reach audiences directly. Axios has signalled it will gauge viewer response before committing to additional episodes.
